*No Experience Necessary

About Level 1

There is zero experience necessary to enroll in this camp. Learn to Row Camp Level 1 will feature foundational basics of the sweep rowing stroke in an 16-person rowing barge. We will teach your athlete everything they need to know, from how to carry a boat, the terminology used, basic warm-up and cool-down exercises, and teamwork. Rowing machines and stationary bikes will be incorporated into daily camp activities.

Arrival and Check-In:
When you come, meet in the parking lot in front of the primary entry. Roll call will be taken by Coach in the beginning, so come a little ahead of time.

What to Expect at Camp:

Day 1: Getting Started on Land

  • Welcome and Introductions: Familiarize yourself with your fellow campers and meet staff.

  • Tour and Safety Briefing: Go on a guided tour of the boathouse and learn about using all of the equipment safely.

  • Rowing Fundamentals: Practice learning a stroke of a row on a rowing machine and a dock box, in which you can learn getting in and getting out of a boat movements.

  • Athletes should come prepared to take a short swim test on Day 1.

Days 2–5 – Building Your Skills:

  • Dual Focus Training: Half of your daily time is on land, refining your movements on the rowing machine, and the other on the water. During the week, your time on the water will progress steadily, so you can test your new movements.

  • Technique and Teamwork: The coaches will position you in assigned boat seats, and you'll go through drill exercises for improving your boat movement. This hands-on experience is vital in boat-confidence and boat-handling capability.
